The population of Bangladesh is increasing day by day. On December 18, 2021, it was 167,082,195.  As the number of population is increasing, health related problems are also increasing. To solve the health problems, more and more hospitals are growing. In these large amount of hospitals, lots of hospital equipment is also need.

The trend of hospital equipment also changing due to globalization. Now, hospital authority is focusing on the newest technology. In our country, the hospital equipment are imported from China, Taiwan, India, Malaysia, Germany, UK, USA etc. But the majority comes from China.

As we know, China is leading medical equipment exporter in the world. They are highly advance in technology. As a result, we can afford highly technological equipment from them in a cheap price.

To know the trend of hospital equipment, we have to learn some basic about hospital equipment. This sector is a huge sector. We will discuss on some basic equipment information to make it easier.

If we want to categorize this sector, we can make the following categories. Such as-

1. Hospital & Surgical attires
2. Hospital beds
3. Hospital Furniture and
4. Hospital Management

We will now try to provide short descriptions on these categories.

i. Hospital & Surgical attires:

This category consists of attires that are used by different members of a hospital. Such as doctors, surgeons, nurses, cleaning staffs, kitchen staffs, patients, attendance etc.

1. Medical Apron: Medical aprons are mainly used by the doctors and medical students. The male and female design of aprons are not same. There are different sizes of aprons. The fabric quality also differs.
2. Surgical Gown Set: It is worn by the surgeons in OT. It consists of a half shirt, pant, mask and a cap. Mainly the color of this gown set is green or blue.
3. Surgical OT Gown Set: It is also worn in the time of surgery in OT. It consist of a long gown, a mask and a cap. It is also green or blue colored.
4. Gloves: It is an important element for the doctors and surgeons in a hospital. There are different types of gloves. Such as- surgical gloves, latex gloves, powdered or non-powdered gloves, nitrile gloves etc.
5. Mask: There are different types of masks. Such as: disposable, fabric mask, n95, kn95 etc. Doctors as well as the normal people, everyone should use mask for safety.
6. Personal protection: There are some personal protection equipment too. They are face shields, shoe cover, PPE etc.

ii. Hospital Beds:

This category consists of different types of beds used in hospital. The beds are imported from China, Malaysia, India etc. Also Bangladesh produces different hospital beds too.

1. 5 Function electric bed: This bed works on electricity. There are five functions includes here. They are- head side raise, leg side rise, bed raise vertically, tilt left and tilt right.    
2. 3 Function electric and manual bed: This bed comes in two different model. One is manual and another is electric. The three functions are: head side raise, leg side rise and bed raise vertically.
3. 2 Functions bed: Generally two functions beds are manual. It has two functions on it. Such as: head side raise and leg side rise.
4. 1 Functions bed: This bed has only one function. It can only raise head side.

There are some other hospital beds. Patient examination bed, therapy bed, traction bed etc.

iii. Hospital Furniture:

This category consists of different types of hospital furniture. A hospital needs lots of furniture which are specially made for hospital purposes. Such as:

1. Bedside Locker: It is placed beside the bed of a patient. Patient can put dry foods, medicines and other emergency products here
2. Medicine Trolley: This trolley is used to provide different medicines from one bed to other or one cabin to other cabin by hospital staffs
3. Saline Stand: It is also known as I.V. Stand. Used for providing saline or liquid medicines to patients.

iv. Hospital Management:

This category contains equipment that is used mainly by the hospital management. Some of them are described below-

1. Patient Stretcher/ Trolley: These products are used in carrying patients from ambulance to emergency or anywhere inside hospital
2. Biohazard Bag: It is used in disposing biohazard elements. Most of these bags are autoclavable.
3. Syringe Destroyer: Syringe or Needle destroyer are used to destroy used syringe or needles.
